Def Defiance - Hazardous

Massive respect to Supreme Shar, Rola and Project Cee for producing possibly the best UK Hip Hop album of the early 90's. Hopefully soon to be re-released on CD if the good DR pulls his finger out.
This is the title track from the album which was only available on cassette - 100 copies only ! Thats what Hip Hop is all about - Real Music for Real Heads !

The following text is taken straight from www.myspace.com/defdefiance

This is the story of a Hip Hop Crew from Exeter, who were running things back then in the south-west between 1989 and 1991. These were amazing times- pre mobile phones, pre internet, there were no easy hook ups, and you rolled with your crew because they were your homeboys- that's how it was- and the product that evolved through this anthropological process was called 'HAZARDOUS' by DEF DEFIANCE. The crew consisted of three members- ROLA (beat design and vocals), SUPREME SHAR (Producer, cuts and vocals) and PROJECT CEE (beat design and vocals). We had one or two guests - JA LE SURGEON (cuts) and PLAN B (vocals) on one track- but the rest is the trio that rocked many many shows over many many moons ago in the funky south-west. We played with the Demon Boys, Caveman and Blade at the legendary DANCE RAW showcases in Exeter's Lemon Grove in 1990 and 1991, and those times are still remembered with love. The album 'HAZARDOUS' was recorded at two home studios, using a simple hand held magnetic microphone, and AKAI S900 sampler, and a Yamaha RX-5 as a sequencer. It was all laced down on an analogue B and O two-track reel-to-reel that had been handed down to Shar from his dad's jazz band days in the 1960's- for the most part it was made at 'THE D.D. SHACK' then finished off at 'ARROW AND BOW' in late 1991, and it hit the street of the south-west in 1991. We had no record deal, no contract, no distribution. We bought 100 blank tapes- the best quality we could afford, and recorded them one by one over a long week in the December of 1991. They all sold out within a week, hand to hand on the streets. The rumour goes that it was taped so much, copies from copies, there were b-boys running around with 10th and 11th generation copies rocking in their walkmans. we've even heard some dudes in Germany and Holland and Norway were rocking it.........much, naturally has changed- (but ROLA and PROJECT CEE are still working together- Konfectionists and The Projections) so here's the page that remembers Def Defiance- we hope you enjoy checking out our hip hop from nearly two decades ago....
